Achevé en 1885 par le grand-père de Bess Truman, le 219 North Delaware était la maison des Truman.
Après leur mariage en 1919, Harry emménagea chez la famille de Bess. Connue sous le nom de « Summer White House » de 1945 à 1953, la maison resta dans la famille jusqu'à la mort de Mme Truman en 1982. Elle laissa la maison au peuple des États-Unis et le 219 North Delaware devint une partie du National Park System en 1983.
